Q & Z Nursery, Inc. began operations on October 1, 1992. Prior to that it had been the tissue culture propagation
division of T & Z Nursery (Winfield, IL). Q & Z is headquartered in Rochelle, Illinois where it maintains its business
office, greenhouses, growing fields, and tissue culture laboratory. |
| Over the years, Mark Zilis, Q & Z Nursery president, has introduced over 400 different hostas. These are
the result of hybridization and tissue culture mutation selection. Among his hybrids are ‘Appletini’, ‘Azuretini’,
‘Blue Regal’, ‘Electric Blue’, ‘Leather Sheen’, ‘Lemontini’, ‘Marilyn’, ‘Peacock Feathers’, ‘Puddles and Bumps,
‘Saketini’, ‘Tidewater’, and ‘Venetian Blue’. Some of his cultivars from mutation selection include ‘Bulletproof’,
‘Diamond Tiara’, ‘Fingerprint’, ‘Frosted Mouse Ears’, ‘Great Arrival’, ‘Holy Mouse Ears’, ‘Katie Q’, ‘Pineapple
Upsidedown Cake’, ‘Radiant Edger’, ‘Sugar and Cream’, ‘Sugar and Spice’, ‘Sum It Up’, ‘Summer Breeze’, ‘Summer
Lovin’, and ‘Victory’.
